TAVI is an aortic valve implantation with catheter without large incisions in the skin. Asklepios St. Georg has received the certificate of the German Cardiologists Society for the high quality and number of performed procedures.

Asklepios St. George Hospital is one of the 1st to receive certificate of the German Spine Society (DWG). The Clinic has established interdisciplinary cooperation to receive this certificate. TAVI (Transcatheter aortic valve implantation)

The TAVI procedure is performed to replace or correct the heart valves. Heart surgeons perform all the manipulations using a thin tube (catheter), which is injected through the femoral artery.

• general anesthesia is not required;

MitraClip for heart failure treatment

Heart surgeons perform the MitraClip procedure through the catheter. A special clamp is installed at the end of the catheter. Applying the clamp, doctors fasten of the mitral valves. The surgery is painless. A patient is under general anesthesia. The MitraClip lasts about 1,5 hours.

Over 600 patients have undergone the procedure at Asklepios St. Georg.

The Heart Surgery Department of Asklepios St. Georg has been included into the TOP list since 2014 according to the Focus magazine.

Doctors of the Department specialize in the heart bypass, heart valves correction and replacement, aortic surgeries.

Minimally invasive heart surgeries

Heart surgeons perform most of the operations through 6-10 cm incisions made between the ribs.

Advantages of the method — lower traumatism of the tissues in comparison with the sternum opening during the open surgery. Little scars remain after the surgery. The recovery period is quicker than after the open surgery.

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with and without heart-lung apparatus

In the most cases, doctors use the artery of the chest. It is sewed to the heart in circumvention in the affected vessel, and due to this, normal blood circulation is restored. Cardiologists have proven that the arteries of the chest are not clogged for over 30 years.

Doctors conduct CABG of 2 types — with and without an artificial circulation apparatus. During the operation, the device does the function of the heart and lungs. Operation without an apparatus is technically difficult, but after it a patient has no risk of developing atrial fibrillation.

 

A catheterization laboratory

Doctors specialize in performing such operations as:

• Microsurgery. Specialists remove tumors through 1-8 cm incisions. The recovery period after microsurgeries is rapid. The scars are barely noticeable.
• Laser therapy. Doctors apply the laser when the tumor cannot be removed completely. The method help to avoid the resurgence of the disease.
• Ultrasound therapy. Ultrasound reduces the tumor size. Then the doctors remove the fluid through a thin catheter. For this procedure, extensive incisions are not required. Physicians perform manipulations through 1-2 punctures.
