After graduated from Ege University, Faculty of Dentistry in 2003 he started his PhD education in the Department of Periodontology, Institute of Health in the same university. Having completed the PhD education in 2009 he started to work as a research assistant in Ege University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Periodontology.

He became Assoc.Prof in 2015 and continued both clinical and academic research. In 2022 he became full professor and have published more than 30 studies in well-known scientific journals. He developed a connective tissue graft harvesting tool (Nizam Punch), which is being produced in Germany and two implant systems which are being used in many countries. Интересы доктора Онура Шахина включают в себя передовую имплантологию, аугментацию твердых и мягких тканей атрофированных челюстей, лечение all-on-X, скуловые, крыловидные и трансназальные имплантаты, медикаментозный остеонекроз челюсти (MRONJ), а также стволовые клетки и регенеративную терапию. Он был приглашенным докладчиком на многих национальных и международных симпозиумах по имплантологии и челюстно-лицевой хирургии и провел множество практических и кадаверных курсов по имплантологии. Доктор Шахин, который выполнил первый случай с имплантатами скуловой кости, крыловидной кости и трансназальной имплантации в Турции, имеет более 100 пациентов, прошедших лечение с помощью этих имплантатов. Он опубликовал более 50 статей в национальных и международных журналах и более 100 постеров/устных докладов, представленных на национальных и международных конгрессах, связанных с его научной областью. Также на сегодняшний день было сделано более 300 ссылок на публикации доктора Шахина.
