What is De Quervain’s?
De Quervain’s tenosynovitis is a condition where the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist become inflamed, causing pain, swelling, and difficulty moving the thumb or wrist. It’s common in new mothers, people who use their hands repetitively, or smartphone overuse.
This condition is caused by inflammation of the tendon sheath and tendons on the back side of the wrist, near the thumb. This leads to constriction or narrowing of the movement of the tendons inside. In most cases, the condition is due to aging or repetitive use, as well as chronic inflammatory conditions. Treatment involves surgery, where the sheath is cut to reduce compression and friction. It is advisable to consult a physician before receiving treatment.
