Dr Sanchez Yague

Dr. Sanchez Yague is a gastroenterologist who was the first in the world to use the 15-mm AXIOS stent. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG). He pioneered submucosal endoscopic dissection in Spain and leads the Digestive System Unit at Quirónsalud Marbella.

Dr. Yague treats diseases of the digestive tract, liver, biliary ducts, and pancreas. He uses advanced endoscopic resection techniques to remove tumors without invasive surgery. In 2011, he became a Spanish pioneer by introducing submucosal endoscopic dissection — a technique to remove deep gastrointestinal lesions.

His work includes performing gastroenteroanastomosis with luminal apposition stents for patients with pancreatic cancer. In 2011, Dr. Yague used the 15-mm AXIOS stent for the first time globally. He used this tool for successful pancreatic fluid collection drainage. This technique allows for less invasive treatment of serious pancreatic complications. Furthermore, he pioneered the use of luminal apposition stents for bowel obstruction in 2018.

The doctor co-authored clinical reference guides for the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
