Professor Markus Dukes is a specialist in diagnostic radiology and minimally invasive therapy.

Education and professional experience

• 1982-1988 - study of human medicine at the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz.
• 1988 - approval and medical license.
• 1988-1989 - Medical officer of the Bundeswehr.
• 1990 - Candidate of Medical Sciences in the field of radiology, subject: “Investigation of the influence of dilation speed on its success, as well as on damage to the vessel walls during balloon expansion”, at the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz.
• 1990-1996 - Resident in the Department of Radiology at the Ruprecht-Karls University.
• 1996 - Senior physician in the Department of Radiodiagnostics at the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg.
• 1998 - Doctorate in Diagnostic Radiology, topic: "Direct comparison of imaging methods for gastric carcinoma: the importance of optimized examination methods in clinical practice and first experience with magnetic resonance imaging."
• 2000 - Deputy Head of the Department of Radiology, Department of Radiodiagnostics at the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg.
• 2000-2002 - Head of the Image Processing Center at the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Heidelberg.
• 2002-2003 - Head of the Department of Radiology, Surgical Clinic, Department of Radiology at the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg.

Scientific activity

Marcus Dukes is one of the first physicians to perform minimally invasive microwave ablation of liver and lung tumors under CT guidance.

Clinical activities

The professor heads the first and only MRI-guided FUS ablation center in the Rhine-Main region. In most cases, the procedure allows avoiding surgical intervention. Patients of the center have access to ablation for prostate cancer, bone and liver metastases, benign tumors, and treatment of uterine fibroids without surgery.
