Dr. Boris Pekárek is a gastroenterologist. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava in 2002. He worked at the Internal Medicine Clinic in Trnava from 2002 to April 2010. He obtained his specialization in gastroenterology in 2008.
Since April 2010, he has worked at the Gastroenterology Department of the National Cancer Institute. He has led the department since 2017. He completed several specialized training courses abroad. He focuses on endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of early tumors of the esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum.
He served as chair of the Oncology Section of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society from 2018 to 2024. He is the current chair of its Endoscopy Section and a member of the Society’s committee. Dr. Lubos Zitnan is a gastroenterologist at the Gastroenterology Department of the National Cancer Institute. He has worked there since 2010. He also serves on the committee of the Oncology Section of the Slovak Gastroenterological Society.

He received his medical degree from the University of Barcelona, went on to complete specialty training in pediatrics and fellowships in pediatric hematology oncology and molecular pathology of pediatric cancer at Weill Cornell Medicine and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the USA.
