The Orthopedic Spine Surgery Department focuses on minimally invasive treatment of degenerative spinal diseases. For patients with lumbar disc herniation, the expert team comprehensively evaluates imaging findings and the degree of nerve compression to determine whether surgical intervention is needed. The department routinely performs various procedures, including minimally invasive transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (e.g., TESSYS technique) with less trauma and faster recovery, as well as open decompression and fusion internal fixation for cases with lumbar instability or severe spinal stenosis. The core goal of surgery is to precisely remove the herniated nucleus pulposus compressing the nerve root, relieve nerve pressure, and quickly alleviate the patient's lower back and leg pain and numbness. Postoperatively, patients typically undergo guided early neurological rehabilitation training to regain daily living abilities as soon as possible.

What surgical procedures are included?​ Transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy, microendoscopic/microscopic lumbar discectomy, posterior lumbar decompression and fusion with internal fixation (for complex cases).

What diagnostic procedures are included?​ Lumbar X-ray, lumbar MRI (to identify herniation location and nerve compression), lumbar CT 3D reconstruction, electromyography.

Are there any implants?​ Depends on the specific surgical plan. Simple minimally invasive discectomy usually has no implants; open fusion and internal fixation surgery includes metal implants such as pedicle screws, connecting rods, and interbody fusion cages.
