Univ. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Köstler is a distinguished Austrian medical oncologist and internist, internationally recognized for his expertise in breast cancer, gynecologic malignancies, and targeted cancer therapies. With over two decades of clinical, academic, and research experience, he has become one of Austria’s foremost authorities in individualized cancer treatment.

He studied medicine at the University of Vienna, where he graduated in the 1990s, and subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine and medical oncology at the Medical University of Vienna. Early in his career, he worked alongside leading oncologists on the development of targeted therapies and personalized medicine — a field that would define much of his later work.

1990s – Completed medical studies and residency in internal medicine and oncology at Vienna General Hospital (AKH).

2000s – Specialized in solid tumor oncology, with a focus on breast and gynecologic cancers; contributed to early clinical trials on targeted therapies.

2010s – Appointed Associate Professor at the Medical University of Vienna, and Deputy Head of the Clinical Division of Oncology, where he advanced translational research in molecular oncology.

Today – Serves as senior consultant at Wiener Privatklinik and continues academic work at the Medical University of Vienna, focusing on individualized systemic cancer therapy, immunotherapy, and translational cancer research.

Prof. Köstler’s research interests include biomarker development, tumor biology, and resistance mechanisms to targeted drugs, contributing to the design of new treatment strategies in precision oncology. His scientific work has been published in leading international journals, and he remains an active participant in European oncology networks.
