    Avicenna International Hospital
  • My 34 years of medicine – which is more than half my life… After thousands of surgeries, the excitement and sense of responsibility of the first day still outweigh it. My father was a doctor, a neurologist too. I would always give the same response to those asking what I would be in elementary and secondary school: Neurosurgeon. When I started my neurosurgery residency at Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital in 1992, my childhood goal was fulfilled. Two points have always stood out from the others throughout my medical career: 1. Don’t harm anyone. 2. The most important relationship between the doctor and patient is the relationship of trust. In line with the principle of “first do no harm” in Turkish with “primum non nocere” in Latin, I have always preferred to perform secured surgeries under the microscope from smaller incisions. I didn’t perform any surgery that I wasn’t sure the patient would benefit from. So I’ve always been in a position to convince myself first of the need for surgery. Then I convince my patient. I kept in mind that the most important relationship between surgeon and patient is the relationship of trust. How can a person entrust his life to someone he saw 15 minutes ago without a relationship of trust? I cared about this relationship lasting post-surgery and even for life. I’ve had the first walks of my patients that I’ve operated in 28 years. Sometimes even after midnight many times… I’ve always cared about some patients’ feeling of their need to see their physician even at 03.00 o’clock midnight. I don’t mind giving all my patients my cell phone number. I would want my physician to be available at any time as needed. That’s what I do for my patients. In these lines, I felt the need to describe my view of medicine. Anyone who wonders anyway can reach my resume and my publications.

FAQ

これらのFAQはBookimedを通じて医療支援を求める実際の患者からのものです。回答は経験豊富な医療コーディネーターと信頼できるクリニック代表者が行います。

What is the success rate for neuropathy treatment in Turkey?

Success rates for neuropathy treatment in Turkey range from 75% to 90% depending on the specific approach. Stem cell therapy efficacy typically falls between 75% and 80%, while surgical nerve decompression and spinal cord stimulation treatments achieve success rates of 85% to 95% at JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Regenerative efficacy: Stem cell therapy shows 75% to 80% improvement in chronic neuropathic symptoms.
  • Surgical success: Decompression procedures for radiculopathy reach 85% to 95% success in restoring function.
  • Neuromodulation outcomes: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) maintains 86% success rates after one year.
  • Clinical standards: High outcomes are supported by GMP-certified laboratories and JCI-accredited hospital protocols.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success in Turkey often hinges on the laboratory location. Liv Hospital Ulus features the country’s first private GMP-standard stem cell center located directly inside the hospital. This on-site processing eliminates courier delays, ensuring maximum cell viability for the 22,000 USD premium multi-dose packages.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report a 20% to 30% relief in symptoms like pain or numbness. Setting realistic expectations is vital, as improvements may require combining cellular therapy with consistent physiotherapy and dietary management.

Is stem cell therapy legal and regulated in Turkey?

Stem cell therapy is legal and strictly regulated in Turkey by the Ministry of Health. Every treatment requires individual patient approval, which typically takes 6 to 10 weeks. Procedures must occur in licensed facilities using stem cells processed in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified laboratories.

  • Regulatory oversight: The Ministry of Health mandates formal authorization for every specific neurological case.
  • Laboratory standards: Centers like Liv Hospital Ulus use Turkey first private GMP-standard stem-cell labs.
  • Authorized clinicians: Specialists like Professor Erdal Karaöz lead Ministry-approved clinical trials for neurological conditions.
  • Accreditation backup: Top facilities maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation to ensure global safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer single injections, the highest-rated protocols for neuropathy often utilize 2-dose or 3-dose cycles. Data from Liv Hospital Ulus shows their premium packages include a 16-day stay, which allows for proper cell integration and professional monitoring during the early recovery phase.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend prioritizing university hospitals for autologous mesenchymal stem cell treatments. Many suggest combining these injections with intensive physiotherapy to maximize functional gains and neurological repair.

What types of stem cells are used for neuropathy therapy in Turkey?

Turkish clinics primarily use Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) for neuropathy, focusing on umbilical cord-derived allogeneic cells and autologous bone marrow or adipose-derived cells. These therapies aim to reduce inflammation and stimulate nerve repair through intravenous infusions, intrathecal injections, or localized applications.

  • Umbilical cord MSCs: Allogeneic cells from Wharton's jelly provide high potency without patient harvesting.
  • Autologous bone marrow: Stem cells collected from the patient's own bone marrow for safety.
  • Adipose-derived cells: Autologous MSCs harvested from the patient's own fat tissue.
  • Exosome-enriched protocols: Signaling molecules often added to MSC treatments to enhance cellular communication.
  • GMP-standard production: Clinics like Liv Hospital Ulus use internally processed, high-purity clinical-grade cells.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many global centers prioritize bone marrow-derived cells, Turkey’s advanced infrastructure, like the GMP-certified lab at Liv Hospital Ulus, allows for specialized allogeneic umbilical cord protocols. This infrastructure supports multi-dose packages, often including 2 to 3 applications, which are more common here than single-session treatments found elsewhere.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend verifying cell sources through lab reports and suggest budgeting for at least 2 sessions. Many emphasize using pre- and post-treatment EMG testing to objectively track improvements in nerve function.

What is typically included in a stem cell treatment package for neuropathy?

Stem cell neuropathy packages in Turkey typically include 2 to 3 doses of GMP-produced mesenchymal stem cells, specialized IV infusions, and diagnostic screenings. These comprehensive bundles feature 2 nights of hospitalization, 16 nights of 4-star hotel stay, and VIP airport-to-clinic transfers for international patients.

  • Cell preparation: GMP-certified laboratory processing of umbilical-cord or adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells.
  • Medical evaluations: Neurologist consultations, preoperative blood panels, and radiologic imaging like MRI or CT.
  • Supportive treatments: Vitamin infusions, ozone therapy boosters, and targeted nerve blocks to enhance regeneration.
  • Post-op care: Follow-up examinations before discharge and virtual monitoring for up to 6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries offer single-session outpatient injections, Turkey’s leading centers like Liv Hospital Ulus provide multi-dose protocols. Their packages include a 16-day recovery window. This extended stay allows for 5 to 10 physiotherapy sessions. This combination is vital for restoring balance and mobility effectively.

Patient Consensus: Patients often highlight the convenience of having every detail managed, from luxury transfers to long-term hotel stays. Most visitors value the professional coordination, which helps them focus entirely on their sensory recovery and physical therapy goals.

How long does the entire stem cell therapy process take?

Stem cell therapy for neuropathy in Turkey typically requires 3 to 10 days on-site for the medical procedure. Premium protocols often include a 2-day hospital stay followed by 16 days of monitoring to ensure patient safety and optimal cell engraftment before international travel.

  • Procedure duration: Actual cell injections or IV infusions take 1 to 4 hours per session.
  • Clinical stay: Hospitalization usually lasts 2 days for initial harvesting and baseline observation.
  • Protocol variations: Multi-dose plans at Liv Hospital Ulus require 5 to 7 days for spacing.
  • Travel window: Most specialists recommend a total stay of 14 days for recovery and monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The efficiency of Turkish clinics stems from on-campus GMP-certified laboratories. Facilities like Liv Hospital Ulus process cells on-site, which can shorten the classic 2-week wait for lab-grown cultures to just 5 days. This integrated model significantly reduces travel fatigue for patients with mobility-limiting neuropathy.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize budgeting 7 to 14 full days in Istanbul to avoid rushing. They report that adding 2 buffer nights after the final injection helps manage potential nerve flares during the long flight home.

Which clinics are recommended for stem cell therapy for neuropathy in Turkey?

Recommended clinics for stem cell therapy for neuropathy in Turkey include Joint Commission International accredited facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Liv Hospital Ulus. These centers utilize advanced mesenchymal stem cells produced in certified labs to target nerve regeneration and improve systemic neurological function.

  • Liv Hospital Ulus: Features Turkey first in-hospital GMP-certified stem cell production center for specialized dosing.
  • Memorial Şişli Hospital: Provides neurological cellular therapies within a massive 53,000 square meter high-tech campus.
  • Biruni University Hospital: Offers academic-tier protocols combining stem cell infusions with intensive 30-session rehabilitation.
  • You Clinic: Specializes in holistic neuro-rehabilitation for international patients seeking cognitive and metabolic enhancement.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer single-dose infusions, data shows that premium packages at Liv Hospital Ulus often include 2 or 3 doses. These multi-dose protocols, led by Dr. Erdal Karaöz, aim for higher therapeutic bioavailability. This approach includes 16-day hotel stays for close monitoring, which is critical for observing nerve repair responses.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize choosing clinics with targeted delivery methods rather than simple intravenous drips. Success often requires combining cell therapy with strict glucose control and specialized vitamin infusions for lasting relief.
