He entered Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and started his compulsory service in Akçaabat district of Trabzon in 1993. In January 1995, he was admitted to the Hepato-Biliary Surgery service of the Universite Libre Bruxelles Erasmus Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. He started his General Surgery residency in October 1996 and became a General Surgery Specialist in Belgium in 2002 with the thesis "Le Re-do Gastroplastie dans le traitement des complications des Procedure Bariatriques pour Obesité Morbide" (Revision Surgery in the Treatment of Complications of Bariatric Procedures for Morbid Obesity).

He worked in the Hepatobiliary Surgery service of ULB Erasmus Hospital until October 2003, and then in October 2003 he joined Providence Hospital in Neuchatel, Switzerland as Deputy Chief of Surgery Clinic. He completed fellowships in Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. He also completed a fellowship in Kidney Cancer Research at McMaster University.

Professor Jair Bar, MD, PhD, is a thoracic oncologist and Deputy Director of the Cancer Center at Sheba Medical Center. He leads the Thoracic Oncology Unit. He treats lung cancer, including advanced non-small cell cases. His care includes medical oncology, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.

He runs a translational research lab focused on resistance to immunotherapy. He has published on exhaled-breath cancer metabolism and on angiogenesis inhibition in lung cancer.

He has chaired the Israel Lung Cancer Group since 2003. He is a member of the Israel Society of Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association for Cancer Research. He is board-certified in Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy Oncology. He is a Senior Lecturer at Tel Aviv University.
